My son had a piano recital last weekend. I love watching him play piano. He is learning at his own pace, preferring experimentation over perfection -- often times even over progress. He spends a lot of time at the piano (an electronic one) figuring out songs he enjoys, composing new songs, and arranging his own versions of other pieces.
His relationship with the piano is one that exudes joy, a common theme for my little man. He is happy to play the piano and even happier when people listen. Recently, he joined in at a jam we regularly attend, watching the other pianist there and copying him (or creating his own version of what he saw). On a few songs, he just went ahead and improvised until he found his groove. It's pure fun for me to watch him play.
This piece is from the soundtrack to the Hercules movie. He plays it as a duet with his wonderfully supportive teacher.
