Quiet Time?

I know people/I have friends who tell me their children will offer them a bit of quiet if they put on a CD everyone enjoys while in the car. I hate these friends. They have set up expectations that my family has never met. This is how my children sang along with their favorite folk CD on their favorite song, a sad, deep song no less, in the car yesterday (Note the stark contrast between the meaning of the words and the conversation the song inspired):

CD and Children, signing joyously:
Take this hammer, bring it to the captain
Take this hammer, bring it to the captain
Take this hammer, bring it to the captain
Tell him I'm gone
Tell him I'm gone

If he asks you was I running,
If he asks you was I running,
If he asks you was I running,
Tell him I was flying

Blueberry:
Hey mamma...just like you flew off your bicycle when you were a little girl

CD and Children, not at all side-tracked by Blueberry's comment, joining joyously:
Tell him I was flying

Eggplant:
Hey, I know how to ride a bike on 2 wheels now

While singer is singing the following words...

I don't want no cornbread and molasses
I don't want no cornbread and molasses
I don't want no cornbread and molasses

...this conversation occurs:
Rhubarb: I know how to ride on 2 wheels also.
Blueberry: Mamma, did you know how to ride a bike on 2 wheels when I was in your uterus?
Rhubarb: No Blueberry. Mamma couldn't ride a bike when you were in her uterus?
Eggplant: Could you Mamma? Could you ride a bike when Blueberry was in your uterus?

CD and Children (who did not wait for my answer, but joined in the chorus, again joyously):
It hurts my pride
It hurts my pride

See how they are.
